REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification or training in interpretation and/or translation 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Facilitate effective communication between individuals or groups who speak Spanish and those who

speak English through both interpretation and translation services. The ideal candidate will possess

fluency in both Spanish and English, with a strong understanding of cultural nuances. You will be responsible for providing interpretation services in a variety of contexts, including meetings, parent/teacher conferences, family nights, and more, as well as translating written materials to ensure clear and accurate communication between Spanish and English speakers.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret between Spanish and English in various settings, ensuring clear and precise understanding.
  • Facilitate communication between Spanish-speaking families and English-speaking school staff.
  • Translate written documents, materials, and correspondence between English and Spanish, maintaining the original meaning and context.
  • Review and proofread translations to ensure they are free from errors and convey the intended message accurately.
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive or personal information.
  • Act as a cultural mediator, explaining cultural differences and customs to promote understanding between parties.
  • Maintain a high level of cultural sensitivity to accurately convey the intended meaning of spoken and written content.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Proficient in translating written documents and materials from Spanish to English and vice versa.
  • Possesses knowledge of cultural sensitivities and the ability to apply this understanding in both interpreting and translating.
  • Possesses a strong memory and listening skills to retain and relay information accurately during interpretation.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and strong writing skills to ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations.
  • Ability to remain neutral and impartial while interpreting and translating.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders in various settings.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills
  • Works independently with little direct supervision
  • Works as part of a team
  • Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve District goals
  • Displays effective multitasking and time management skills

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified or classified personnel.

 

SALARY SCHEDULE

This position will be paid according to the approved Licensed Professional Wage salary schedule. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

As designated by contact unless otherwise assigned by the supervisor.
